The Anterior Pituitary The anterior pituitary (also known as the adenohypophysis) is controlled by the brain but, unlike the neural lobe, does not have a direct nerve supply. Rather, neural information from the brain is translated into chemical messages by specialised hypothalamic cells and then released into the blood supply of the pituitary via the hypophysial-portal system.
